The Merchant House is located in the pretty village of Snettisham on the West of Norfolk. Snettisham is a lovely, quiet village that is very well located and very well served. Located 9 miles north of King’s Lynn and 5 miles south of Hunstanton it is very easy to get from the A149 and is perfectly placed at the south west end of the North Norfolk Coast AONB making it one of the first parts you get to after a long drive from home on the day of your arrival. Despite its easy access it is also very close to North Norfolk Coast and all it has to offer is within a short drive.
The house is within walking distance (15 minutes) of a number of pubs, cafes and shops whilst being situated in a quiet and peaceful area of the village. For restaurants/pubs the Rose & Crown (Norfolk Dining Pub of the Year 2020), The Queen Victoria that shows BT Sport and Sky Sports for all major events, and The Old Bank (fine dining restaurant) all offer great food and drink. In addition there is a fish and chip shop at Snettisham beach and there are a number of cafes – The Old Store (a delightful cafe specialising in Sourdough and very tasty breakfasts), Poppylicious and The Granary. There is also a Co-op supermarket and a chemist.
The church and cricket pitch is near the Rose & Crown which has a lovely playground. The St Mary’s Church has the tallest spire in all of Norfolk apart from Norwich Cathedral and has been described as the ‘the most exciting Decorated church in Norfolk.
Then you add in Snettisham beach with a sailing club and RSPB Bird Sanctuary, walks around Ken Hill and Snettisham Woods where the BBC films Springwatch and Winterwatch, the Snettisham Park Farm and Deer Safari and walks along the River Ingol. You really could spend a whole week here without ever leaving the village – though when you have the Royal Estate of Sandringham a few miles down the road, some of the best coastal spots in the country, such as the coloured cliffs at Huntstanton, amazing sandy beaches at Holme-next-the-sea and Brancaster a short drive away why would you?!
